Wizard World Portland

Comic Safari will be setting up at Wizard World Portland next month.  We're looking forward to this  three day show (January 24-25-26, 2014) and we will be bringing tons of cool stuff including pint glasses, shot glasses, our new Upcycle Comic Buttons, an original owner collection of Marvel books from 1968 and up, some books from the Lake Golden Age Collection, and more!

This show is going to have some great guests including The Captain himself, William Shattner, and Stan Lee!  Be sure to stop by our booth if you're looking for items to have signed, as we'll have a ton of great William Shattner and stan Lee comic books available.

Hello all!  Just a quick update to let you know that the online store is going to be getting a lot of new stock added int he coming week.  We just purchased a small collection of 8 long boxes along with more pint glasses and other items.  Also, we will finally be offering our exclusive Upcycle Comic Buttons on the site soon!

We've also decided to start offering gift bags containing a variety of goodies for those of you shopping for your favorite comic book reader, collector, or fan - stay tuned for more as we make your Christmas shopping less of a hassle.

Next convention stop for us will be Wizard World in Portland, Oregon this coming January 2014.  Is it really almost the end of the year...?  Wow.

Sale of rare issue of Detective Comics smashes recent sale price

Comic Safari is pleased to announce it has set a record sale for a scarce copy of an issue of Detective Comics featuring an early appearance of Batman.

Detective Comics 31 features the fifth appearance of Batman and the copy sold by Comic Safari is graded at 1.8 by CGC, which is one of only 4 copies at this grade on the CGC census.  Detective Comics 31 features a prolific cover by Batman creator Bob Kane and also introduces the Batplane along with Bruce Wayne's first love interest, Julie Madison.  The issue also features an early Batman villain known as The Monk.

On September 26th a CGC 1.8 Detective Comics 31 sold at auction for $17,000.00.  Three days later, Comic Safari sold a copy of the same issue in the same grade for an amazing $24,000.00.

"It's just a fantastic book and I'm very pleased with the sale," said Comic Safari owner Royce Myers.

"We also sold a CGC 3.0 graded copy of Detective Comics 35 for an impressive $18,500.00.  These sales demonstrate how strong the comic book market is for books of this caliber," Myers added.

The books are part of The Lake Golden Age Collection, an original owner collection of comics featuring 13 of the top 100 most valuable Golden Age comics that was discovered by Comic Safari.

On a side note, please don't forget that the Rose City Comic Con is less than thirty days away and Comic Safari will be there with comics, pint glasses, shot glasses, pins, supplies, and more.  We did last year's show and were only expecting maybe a thousand attendees - turned out to be a few thousand and was a crazy time!  Looking forward to seeing all of our friends and customers in Portland next month.

Pandora's Box: Major Golden Age Collection Discovered!

Comic Safari has discovered a small collection of very significant Golden Age comic books from the 1930s and 1940s that include some of the scarcest books.  This find came about after inspecting a few books and later viewing a safety deposit box, the contents of which nobody was entirely sure of.

What was initially described as a safety deposit box containing maybe two comics quickly turned into Pandora's Box, producing multiple Golden Age books from an original owner collection.  The original owner of the books and his brother both bought the books right off the newsstand as children from a long since gone store in a small town.  Sadly, both of the brothers are deceased but were said to have enjoyed comic books long into adulthood.

The books include Superman 1, Batman 1, pre-Robin Detective Comics, Nickel Comics, Police Comics, Zip Comics, and more!  This is an incredible find that does not come along often by any means.

Comic Safari will announce when these amazing Golden Age treasures will become available for sale.  These books have already generated a great deal of interest from collectors.  While the enthusiasm for these books is understandable, please do not contact us with questions about the books at this time.  Again, an announcement will be made when the books become available.

Where to being?  Alright, let's start with this:

The website has been updated and we are in the process of stocking the online store.  After months of frustration and problems, everything is fixed and we apologize to our customers for any inconvenience.

What's new?  We just received the new Walking Dead pint glasses from our friends at 'Toon Tumblers! They'll be in the online store no later than Monday and we have Michonne, Rick, Neegan and The Governor.  Yet another very cool set of glasses.

Also, we will be offering Upcycle Comic Book Buttons TM made from actual comic books.  These buttons were a big hit at the Wonder Northwest show we attended last month in Portland, Oregon.

Can't make it to the San Diego Comic Con this year?  Comic Safari has you covered! We will be offering San Diego Comic Con exclusives for those of you unable to attend the show!  The online store will be stocked with a special convention exclusives section that will be updated live during SDCC.  This is a great way for you to get those convention exclusives you'd otherwise not be able to.

Just a reminder that we will be at Wonder Northwest over the May 25th and 26th weekend in beautiful Portland, Oregon!  We are very excited to be doing this unique show for our third year straight.  Comic Safari will have comic book related pint glasses, shot glasses, pitchers, magnets, and our new Upcycle Comic Buttons TM made from actual comic books!
